Leg Pain
Leg pain can be caused for many different reasons. We’ve listed below a couple of the most common causes along with our methods of treatment at Lightwater Health & Chiropractic Clinic`;
Sciatica
Sciatica is an umbrella term for a number of different problems. It is an irritation of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the base of the spine down the back of the leg into the foot. It can get irritated or trapped at any point along the nerve but the most common sites are in the buttock and in the lower back.
Symptoms:
Numbness, tingling and pain is experienced, normally involving just one leg.
Treatment:
Sciatica is extremely common. Depending on where the problems originate, sciatica can be resolved by conservative treatment such as spinal manipulation, dry needling, and massage. Exercises, including stretches, along with lifestyle advice will also help to avoid recurrence.
Prognosis:
Improvement can take anything from 3 weeks to many months. It solely depends on what is causing the issue.
Vascular Claudication
This occurs when there is insufficient blood flow to the leg muscles. It is usually caused by the build up of plaque in the blood, which narrows the aorta and restricts blood flow.
Symptoms:
Pain and cramping is experienced in or both legs when walking. The pain can be made worse by walking uphill and can quickly subside after a few minutes of rest.
Treatment:
It is likely that we would refer you directly to a cardiologist or GP for further imaging and a treatment plan. You may find it beneficial, however, to have a consultation with us initially in case it isn't this and it is something else that we can treat for you.
